What is Bulk Ad Upload?

Creating multiple ads in one operation by importing creatives and settings together, rather than one ad at a time.

Bulk ad upload is the act of creating multiple ads in one operation by supplying the creatives and their settings together. On Meta there are two paths. The native path is exporting a spreadsheet from Ads Manager, filling it in, and importing it back. The API path is what third-party tools use: creatives and settings are sent to Meta's Marketing API and the ads are created programmatically.

The spreadsheet path is free and needs no third-party access, which is its real advantage. Its weakness is that it is unforgiving and partial. A single mis-typed column produces a wrong ad rather than an error, and settings that live outside the sheet, notably per-feature creative enhancements, still have to be handled by hand afterwards. It also does nothing about assets: the creatives must already exist in the ad account.

The API path handles the asset step as well, uploading and processing video, detecting aspect ratios, and matching creative to placements. That is usually where the real time goes on a large launch, particularly a video-heavy one, because the manual alternative involves downloading a folder from cloud storage and re-uploading the same files to Meta.

Bulk upload is sometimes used interchangeably with bulk ad launching. The useful distinction: uploading describes getting assets and ads into the account correctly, launching describes the whole operation including ad sets, copy variations, naming and tracking. See Facebook ads bulk upload for the practical version.
